25 Silver Acts of Kindness

As part of our Silver Jubilee, several classrooms at Charles Ellis are taking the "25 Silver Acts of Kindness" Challenge! Throughout the month of February, students are encouraged to do 25 kind acts. A personal journal will be kept to keep track of all the positive influences they accomplish. At the end of the month, the students will have a great record of behavior to reflect upon and a unique souvenir of the Silver Jubilee. Why not join in on the fun, too!? Below is a copy of the journal for you to print and use!

About Charles Ellis Montessori Academy

Charles Ellis Montessori Academy is the oldest functioning school in Chatham County. The landmark, two-story red brick school house is located in Ardsley Park. The school opened in 1929 as 49th Street School and was renamed in 1933 for local businessman Charles Ellis.

Charles Ellis Montessori Academy uses the Montessori method of education, an alternative to traditional classroom teaching styles. The philosophy behind the Montessori method is that the educator is merely a facilitator, and that children, given the correct environment, will seek to challenge themselves academically.

Differences between Montessori and traditional public schools include multi-age classes, parent-teacher conferences instead of report cards, hands-on learning and teachers specially trained in the Montessori method, which stresses individual learning. The Montessori method was founded in the early 1900s by Maria Montessori, the first female doctor in Italy.
